Explosive Science 19.03.14
One of the 60 second science investigations in science week was to try and create an explosion after exactly 60 seconds... The team used Alka Seltzers with water, cola and vinegar to try and get the timing just right. It was very messy but lots of fun!

Last day at Avon Tyrrell
The disco - including a heartily sung rendition of 'happy birthday'!
Pals :o)
Twenty first century dance moves on a ninteenth century dance floor.
Love the word that snuck in the top left hand corner - sums the week up really.Apparently the fireplace is nice to sit near even when not 'on'.
Mammal trapping on day five - we set humane small mammal 'hotels' (they are full of tasty treats and it's a wonder the mammals want to leave) the night before and checked them in the morning. We caught six woodmice. The data goes onto a record so the Avon Tyrrell team can see what wildlife is in the area.
One of the (very cute) critters about to be released. Avon Tyrrell is very keen to work with nature and it is a very ecologically conscious place. Dotted around the site are new compost toilets (they are exactly as they sound...) and are great when you are a long way from the house; they are also remarkably fresh smelling which was a nice surprise!
The animals being released exactly where we found them, perhaps with bigger bellies though after their night time snacking.

Avon Tyrrell Day Four
Proudly showing their finding from pond dipping.
One of the very beautiful lakes.
This picture really sums up the fun that is raft building. :o)
Fabulous setting (it's really sheltered here) to play on the water.
The group in the background are playing 'head, shoulders, knees and toes'. Incredibly, no one fell in.
Pond dipping: inspecting a discovery.
Um, yeah, one way to show your mate what you've found. :o)

Avon Tyrrell day three
Low ropes fun :o)
A truly beautiful place to spend time outside.
Happy with their efforts.
Buddies. Friendship is such an important part of this week.

Avon Tyrrell Day Two pm
The top floor of our digs for the week.
Raft building - a messy business.
A lovely day to be out on the water.
Testing out the home made raft.
Collaboration is a must when 'sailing' one of these.
It's a hard life sometimes ;o)
Avon Tyrrell Day 2 am
Low Ropes - these two were balancing on one end of a giant see saw; the group were clever with their mathematical knowledge, working out where where everyone needed to stand to balance it.
'Awesome support for others' was the remark by his Low Ropes instructor. :)
Laughs all round - this activity is always fun to take part in.
Buddies :)
Part of the Low Ropes course - lots of problem solving skills needed here.
Winching a team member in.
Lovely example of the collaboration used by this group.

Avon Tyrrell 2014. Day One
Some of the new inmates of Avon Tyrrell House
Teeny bit of blue sky - this house looks beautiful in any weather :)
One of the lakes.
Inspecting the water, ready to canoe.
Teamwork :)
'Steering' into the bank (and the photographer's knee).
Preparing to assail the wall - there were many that reached the top.
The wall. Note the overhang on the left - this is really tough work!
Ominous dark cloud...
