In September 1939, 800,000 children left their urban city homes to find safety in the countryside. The call came too, to the year 5/6 children of Hythe Primary School, who were evacuated to a safer place.
First they met the billeting officer, who would be assigning them to their new homes.
Then they learnt about life in their new village and how clothes and food would be rationed. They even got to try on some ARP warden clothes!
There was even a practice of what would happen in the event of the air raid siren being started.
After that, there was time to play with 1939's must have toy: a stick and a hoop.
